Kings Park FD-Fire at KPPC Building 124

June 10, 1994 Building 124 was a Group 2 building used as female patient wards 53 and 54. The building was constructed in 1915. The building was laid out as follows:
1st Floor – One large dormitory and a day room on the other end split in half to make a set of small dorm rooms. The hallway down the center led to the visitor areas, a lounge, treatment room, and the bathrooms and showers.

2nd Floor – One dormitory and one day room with a long hallway in between containing the visitors room, two smaller dorms, offices, clothing rooms, showers, bathrooms, and a treatment room.

Patients were taken to the dinning hall of kitchen 123 for their meals. Later the food would be brought in hot by trucks from the kitchen of building 93.

Fire was dispatched at 0418 hours. The building had been abandoned for at least 20 years at the time of the fire. FD found heavy fire on arrival. Mutual aid provided by Commack, East Northport, Smithtown and Nesconset Fire Departments. Fire placed under control by Chief Chief Roy Starke at 0849 hours. 6 firefighters were treated for dehydration, none were transported. Commack Volunteer Ambulance was also on scene. The building was located just north of the Boulevard, near the Nissequogue Yacht Club.
