St. James FD is dispatched at approximately 0300 hours to a fire in a barn on the property.

Crow Miller, founder and director of the Spring Meadow School of Farming at 441 North Country Road in St. James was viciously assaulted today in the latest in a string of bizarre incidents here.

The attack, the second in none months, occurred at the same time that a barn on the school property was deliberately torched.
Miller was transported and admitted to Stony Brook Hospital with a concussion, cracked rib and numerous bruises.
Miller stated that he received a phone call at approximately 0300 hours from someone swearing and threatening him. The person stated “you’re dead, look out your window”. Miller states that when he looked out the window, he saw flames coming from the barn. Miller states that he called the St. James FD and then ran to get the animals out. Miller states that as he was running to the barn, he was attacked by a number of people with what he believes was a bat or a pipe. Miller says that he was knocked unconscious but that some of his students were able to rescue the animals.

On August 5, 1989, Miller reported that a chicken was found hanging on the property. Six more chickens were hung after that. Miller states that he has received numerous threating phone calls in this same time period.

On September 5, 1989, Mr. Miller was allegedly slashed and stabbed by his neighbors Donald Weloth Sr and Donald Weloth Jr. Miller states that this incident occurred when he went outside to investigate a flashlight shining in the rear of his home. The Weloths lived next door at Wicks Farm.

Miller states that on June 15th he received a call where the caller made reference to his testifying at the Weloths trial.
