Kings Park FD-Car hits house, driver is killed, house burns

June 28, 1976 2 LaSalle Lane. A 23 year old Kings Park man was killed instantly early today when the car he was driving struck a house and burst into flames. The impact moved the house three feet off its foundation, spreading flames through the one story structure. The occupants of the house, Virginia Heaney 55, her son Kevin 20, and daughter Margaret 18, were all sleeping at the time, but escaped without injury. The driver, Charles Kocinski, was burned beyond recognition.

Kocinski, of 283 of Old Indian Head Road, was on his way home after dropping off some guests after a family party. He apparently lost control of the car, police said, careening into a telephone pole and a fence before plunging halfway into the basement of the the Heaney home.

Kocinski, a former Marine, was studying police science at Suffolk Community College. Photo and story in 7-3-1976 Smithtown News.
