July 2, 2020 108 New Highway. 0402 The Commack Fire Department responded to a home on New Highway for an odor of smoke in the residence.
Upon arrival, Chief of Department Bobby Wilkins reported moderate smoke coming from the attic of the one story house. Firefighters located and extinguished the fire with an aggressive interior attack limiting the fire damage to an area in the attic above the kitchen.
The home was struck earlier in the night by lightning blowing the top of chimney apart.
All occupants as well as their pets were uninjured. The fire was deemed under control in about 20 minutes and units were back in service about 45 minutes later. Smithtown FIre Marshals are handling the investigating.
