July 5, 2022, 1321 hours. 07-05-2022 The Hauppauge Fire Department is dispatched to a report of a fuel spill on the Westbound Long Island Expressway between exits 57 and 56. Units arrive to find that the fuel tank on a BMW X4 passenger vehicle had been damaged by road debris, with fuel spilling all over the roadway. Firefighters were able to contain the leak but not stop it. The Islip Town Hazardous Materials Team responded to the scene, stopped the leak and offloaded the remaining fuel from the damaged tank.
