September 1, 1923 Nicholas Hinkaty 25, of 656 46th Street in Brooklyn lost his life as his wife and child looked on from the beach. His body lay in 25 feet of water and was not recovered until 1030 Monday morning. the victim and another man paddled their canoe across the lake but on the way back, they decided to switch seats. They both fell out of the canoe. Neither was a strong swimmer. The friend survived.
