July 8, 1957 John Walsh a Maspeth Queens was about 50 yards offshore near Newton and Smithtown Blvds in a boat with his wire and two children. His wife jumped into the water, swam and then returned to the boat. Mr. Walsh then jumped in, swam for a few minutes, then cried out and sank. Lifeguards from Hollywood and Lakeview beaches located the body in nine feet of water.
