Dix Hills FD-House fire on Caledonia Road

July 27, 2008 Lightning was believed to have been the cause of a house fire on Caledonia Road in Dix Hills this afternoon as heavy storms swept through the area. The Dix Hils Fire Department responded to this raging fire and was assisted on scene by the Melville, Greenlawn, Commack and Huntington Manor FD’s. East Northport FD sent an engine to cover and Commack Ambulance sent a rig to cover. Around 70 firefighters and rescue personnel with 15 rigs responded. The fire was brought under control within an hour. Dix Hills First Assistant Chief Robert Adcock was thte OIC. One DIx Hills Firefighter was treated at the scene for a minor burn. Firefighters were able to salvage a number of musical instruments including a cello and an piano. A very valuable violin was lost in the fire. Damage was extensive to the rear of the home.
