August 9, 2017, 1017 hours. The Smithtown Fire Department was called to respond to a report of a house fire at 8 Steven Place. Arriving units encountered heavy fire venting out the attic of a large two-story colonial. Crews stretched lines on the fire and began their VES, while mutual aid was requested from the Hauppauge Fire Department for a RIT and from the Nesconset Fire Department for an engine to the scene.
The fire was quickly extinguished without incident or injury. Chief of Department Michael Landrigan was the OIC. Smithtown Fire Marshals are investigating. Greg Gottlieb photo.
