Nesconset FD-Ex Chief Kirsch passes

September 5, 1987. A funeral will be held Thursday for Karl M. Kirsch, 89, a longtime resident and former fire chief of the Nesconset Fire Department, who died at the Fountainhead Nursing Home in Hialeah, Fla., today. He was 89 years old. Born in Manhattan, Mr. Kirsch lived in Nesconset for more than 60 years. He joined the fire department during World War II when there was a manpower shortage, and rose to the position of chief.

Mr. Kirsch was employed in the legal division of Irving Trust Co. in Manhattan, working as a signature expert and as an inspector of counterfeit money, before retiring in 1964. He was active in the Masons, serving as master of Masonic Lodge 23 in Manhattan, then helping to organize Lodge 1127 in Smithtown.

Visiting at the Hawkins Funeral Home, Smithtown, 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. today and tomorrow. Masonic services there tomorrow night at 7:10, followed by firematic services at 7:20 p.m. Funeral there Thursday at 10 a.m., the Rev. Roger Schleef, pastor of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Smithtown, officiating.
