Hauppauge-Man found murdered in Hauppauge woods

May 15, 1945. The body of 55 year old Joseph Dower was found in a wooded area in east Hauppauge. The Smithtown Coroner Grover A. Silliman said that he had been killed by a blow to the head with a sharp instrument. Police brought Joseph Sampson, 31 years old in for questioning in regard to this murder and another in New Cassel. Sampson, who is a farmhand in East Hauppauge, knew both men and lived near Dower.
