Hauppauge-Fire destroys St. Patricks Church

April 12, 1927. St. Patricks Church is destroyed by a forest fire that had been burning since yesterday morning. Embers from the forest fire ignited the church roof and the church was burned to the ground. There was no Hauppauge Fire Department yet so firefighters from Smithtown, Central Islip, St. James and Middle Island were called. At the time of the fire, the church was one of the oldest Catholic Churches on Long Island. The church was built in 1875.
