September 14, 1970. An explosion in a Hauppauge factory injured four Long Island women today. The women were working in the sanding room of Buchman Spark Wheel Company on Wicks Road when, according to police, a spark from the exhaust system set off a dust explosion. All four were taken by ambulance to Smithtown General Hospital for treatment of burns; two were released after treatment. There was no ensuing fire after the explosion. -Smithtown News 9-17-1970.
