Another shooting in Central Islip

Posted 8/14/2019

Suffolk County Police arrested a man early this morning after he shot and critically injured his
half-brother during an argument in Central Islip.

Third Precinct officers last night responded to a 911 report of a man shot at 340 Irving St. at approximately 11:05 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Daniel Davis in the driveway of the residence with a gunshot wound to his neck. Davis, 31, of Mastic, was transported via Central Islip-Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore in critical but stable condition.

Following an investigation, Third Squad detectives determined Davis was shot by his half-brother, Eugene Sherrod, during a verbal dispute in front of Sherrod’s residence. Sherrod then fled the scene in a Hyundai Santa Fe. Highway Patrol officers located the Hyundai on Express Drive North in Medford and arrested Sherrod at 12:56 a.m.

Detectives charged Sherrod, 40, of 340 Irving St., with Assault 1st Degree. He is being held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
