Automatic fire alarm brings St. James FD to house fire.

Historic house on North Country Road damaged in early morning house fire.

0309 hours. The St. James Fire Department is dispatched to an activated fire alarm at 588 North Country Road. Units arrived to find smoke pushing from an unoccupied two story private dwelling. One hand line was stretched while mutual aid was requested from the Stony Brook FD for an engine, Smithtown FD for a RIT, Nesconset FD for an engine and Nissequogue for an engine. The fire was quickly extinguished and due to the blizzard like conditions, mutual aid companies not already on scene were cancelled while en-route. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety are handling the investigation.
