Fatal vehicle pedestrian on Concord Drive in Kings Park

0814 hours. The Kings Park Fire Department was requested to respond to Concord Drive in Fort Salonga in regard to a subject injured in a fall. On arrival, crews found a 79 year old female in cardiac arrest on the driveway, a result of being struck by a vehicle being operated by her husband. The victim, identified by police as Nancy Richard, was transported to Huntington Hospital where she was pronounced dead. 

Suffolk Police 4th Precinct Detectives state that the incident occurred as the victim returned home after walking her grandchild to the bus stop. Police say that Peter Richard, 83, was backing out of the driveway in a 2015 Mercedes S550 when he struck his wife. Peter Richard was not injured. 

Peter Richard helped to transform P.C. Richard and Son, from a a local seller of household goods, appliances and bedding into a reigonal chain with 66 stores in four states. Peter Richard and his brother Gary, ran the business for several decades. Their father, A.J. Richard (who passed away in 2004) was the Chairman. 

According to Newsday, in 2018, Peter and Nancy Richard donated $3.5 million to the Stony Brook University Children's hospital to help establish the Pediatric Emergency Department.  This donation came 16 years after their granddaughter was seriously injured when she was thrown from a horse. She was treated and recovered at Stony Brook Hospital.
