St. James FD makes quick work of house fire on Hobson Avenue

1316 hours. St. James Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on Hobson Avenue. Chief of Department Edward Springer Jr. was the first in and after a quick size up determined that there was an active fire in the walls and floor between the basement and the ground level of a large two story private dwelling.  Engine 4-3-3 was the first due engine. The crew stretched an 1 3/4 hand line through the front door and attacked the fire. Simultaneous to this, other FD personnel ventilated and searched the structure for victims. This quick attack confined the fire damage to a small section of the house.  St. James Volunteer Fire Department operated with Chief of Department Edward Springer Jr, 3rd Assistant Chief Frank Sapienza, Engine’s 1, 3, Ladder 7, Rescue 9 and EMS Company 6. The Nesconset Fire Department sent Engine 4-4-1, and the Stony Brook Fire Department sent a Rapid Intervention Team. The Nissequogue Fire Department sent an engine to Saint James FD to cover the district for the duration of the incident.

Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety are handling the origin and cause investigation.
