1640 hours. Smithtown Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a vehicle crash on Meadow Road. Units arrived to find that that an SUV had left the roadway, striking a telephone pole at the entrance to the Accompsett Middle School. Suffolk Police were already on scene and had the roadway closed due to energized electrical wires burning on the ground behind the vehicle. The driver had self extricated and was transported to the hospital via ambulance. FD personnel stood by until PSEG arrived and cut power to the down lines. At that point Crews secured the vehicle, addressed spilled fluids on the roadway and then secured from the scene.
